Marshall County Courthouse opening delayed until fall

T-R FILE PHOTO - Scaffolding still coats much of the Marshall County Courthouse, which officials say will be re-opened by the one-year anniversary of the July 19 tornado.

County leaders announced the Marshall County Courthouse is not estimated to be open until the fall. The building was originally supposed to open around the one-year anniversary of the July 19, 2018 tornado.

“Marshall County Board of Supervisors and Auditor/Recorder were optimistic that we would have a one year completion for repairs to the courthouse. Unfortunately, we have run into several issues which are delaying our return,” according to a county statement issued Friday morning. “Code update requirements, continued discovery of damage not previously identified, unknowns and challenges with our historic building, bid processes and insurance approvals have all contributed to the delay.”

The costs of repairs are set to exceed $15.5 million. Many of the county offices are operating out of Great Western Bank, 11 N. First Ave.

“As we get bid processes finalized we will have a better target move back date and will be keeping the public updated throughout the process,” the statement read.
