Marshalltown police arrested and transported a local woman to Marshall County Jail on a charge of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury.

Shevaun Marie Bastarache, 44, was taken into custody after police determined she was the primary aggressor in the incident resulting from an argument over a phone at a residence in the 700 block of North Fifth Avenue. However, the victim did not require hospitalization.

During the defendant’s initial hearing Monday, a magistrate ordered the defendant held on $1,000 cash or surety bond and issued a no contact order protecting the victim. The magistrate also appointed the defendant a public defender. The defendant’s preliminary hearing is May 9.
