A Marshalltown man who choked a victim by grabbing her around the throat, hitting her in the face and upper arms with his fists, and kicking the victim in the stomach was arrested recently by Marshalltown police.

Daryl L. Carter II, 25, of Marshalltown was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Marshall County District Court.

Authorities were called to a residence in the 400 block of West State Street upon report of a domestic dispute. After an investigation police took into custody and transported the defendant Marshall County Jail.

It was unclear from the criminal complaint if the victim required medical attention,

At his initial appearance before a magistrate the defendant was ordered held in jail on $5,000 cash or surety bond. He was also appointed an attorney to represent him. The magistrate also issued a no contact order to protect the victim.
