Ferguson man charged with using stolen skid loader to steal train parts

Seelye

A Ferguson man has been arrested and charged with five counts of felony theft over allegations that he stole thousands of dollars worth of train radiators and parts from a Marshalltown business using a stolen skid loader.

On April 17, the Marshalltown Police Department executed five search warrants in Marshall and Benton Counties relating to an ongoing theft investigation, which related to multiple thefts from a local business, according to an MPD press release. Criminal complaints indicate that 41-year-old Steven Paul Seelye Jr. of Ferguson allegedly used a Case skid loader reported stolen from Premier Commercial Services in Bondurant last July to in turn steal multiple train radiators and train radiator parts from Electro Motive in Marshalltown. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at around $40,000.

During the execution of the warrants, stolen property from two other jurisdictions, including a burglary in Toledo, was also located. On Monday, Seelye was arrested for two counts of first degree theft, each a Class C felony, and three counts of second degree theft, each a Class D felony. He has since posted bond and is scheduled to make a court appearance on May 1 at 8:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected, according to the release. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Detective Tuttle at 641-844-1804 or the Marshall County Crime Stoppers.

The MPD was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, the Toledo Police Department, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
