Attic fire causes damage on Saturday night

No injuries were reported involving a fire at 8:38 p.m. on Saturday, at 205 W. Nevada St. Apt. 2. However, eight to 10 residents were displaced.

Communications advised that the occupant and caller witnessed fire dropping from the ceiling of an upper floor apartment. Upon the arrival of fire department personnel, light smoked was visible in eaves of the roof.

Fire crews established a water supply and entered the structure. Once on the upper floor, firefighters pulled down some ceiling to uncover a small attic fire. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Firefighters were at the scene of the incident for approximately two hours.

Alternate temporary accommodations for displaced tenants were made at the scene of the incident by the property owner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Marshalltown Police, UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown EMS, Marshalltown Public Works and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene.
