City council, school board candidate filing deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday

T-R FILE PHOTO – The full school board and city council candidate fields will be come clear after Thursday’s 5 p.m. filing deadline. Four school board seats are up in the Nov. 3 election. The city will have on at-large seat, as well as the Second Ward and Fourth Ward seats, up in November.

The fields of candidates for Marshalltown City Council and Marshalltown School Board will be finalized after 5 p.m. Thursday, when candidates must have their nomination papers submitted.

Those interested in filing for city council can bring their paperwork to City Clerk Shari Coughenour at Marshalltown City Hall, 24 N. Center St.

City council candidates to turn in their papers as of Wednesday evening include:

• Second Ward – Tyler Johnson

• Fourth Ward – Al Hoop

• At Large – James Walker, Mark Eaton, Dex Walker

Those interested in filing to run for one of the four school board seats up for election in 2019 should turn their nomination papers in to Board Secretary Paulette Newbold at the Central Administration Office, 1002 S. Third Ave. also by 5 p.m. Thursday.

The official school board candidates as of Wednesday evening include:

• Sara Faltys

• Sean Heitmann

• Jan McGuinnis

For more information on filing for either city council or school board candidacy, call city hall at 641-754-5701 or the school district at 641-754-1000. The combined city/school election will take place Nov. 3.
