Police investigate threat at Miller Middle School

A social media threat at Miller Middle School is under investigation by Marshalltown Police, according to Chief Mike Tupper and Marshalltown Schools Communication Director Andrew Potter.

“We are working closely with the school district to investigate safety concerns. Threats are not considered credible,” Tupper said Monday night. “It is safe to go to school (Tuesday).”

Neither the police nor school officials have revealed the exact nature of the threat, though a message to parents by the school district shows it is considered an “indirect social media threat.”

The message to parents sent Monday night reads:

“Miller Middle School leaders are aware of an indirect social media threat following an incident at the school last week. The incident has been addressed by the school with those involved. We take all threats seriously and investigate all threats and have been in contact with the Marshalltown Police Department. We have determined this is not a credible threat and continue to work to ensure safety as our top priority.”

Tupper said the investigation into the incident continues as of Monday night.
