Teacher Spotlight: Duncan Ferch
Meet one of the brand new teachers in the Marshalltown School District – Duncan Ferch.
Ferch, 24, is originally from State Center and is a graduate of West Marshall High School. He is the son of Randy and Tracy and has two brothers — Dalton and Drake.
Ferch graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in 2019. While at the university he played football for the UNI Panthers as a linebacker.
Ferch has been with teaching financial literacy and general psychology at the Marshalltown High School since August.
Q: What is it like being a first year teacher at MHS?
A: It is a lot of learning on the job, but student teaching at MHS last year prepared me well for having my own class.
Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?
A: I had many great high school teachers.
Q: What are the best aspects of your job?
A: Building relationships with the students and trying to make the information and content meaningful to them.
Q: What do you want the people of Marshalltown to know about your job, the school, the district, etc.?
A: I am enjoying my first few months at MHS!
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I enjoy hanging with friends and family and watching sports!
