Success never gets old for the United Way.

Just ask Executive Director Nancy Steveson on meeting its $780,000 2019-20 campaign goal last week.

“We are excited and grateful for what we are able to do,” she said.

Steveson, now in her 38th year with the organization said each campaign is special.

“Every one has its nuances,” she said. “We work as hard as we can, so it is always gratifying to meet goals. The volunteers and our staff work just as hard on campaigns where goals are not met, so, it is always fun to have the campaign wrap-up successfully.”

Twenty-seven Marshalltown area organizations, ranging from Boy Scouts to the House of Compassion to the Salvation Army depend on United Way funding

The campaign kicked-off last fall with Marshalltown Community School District Superintendent Theron Schutte and local businessman Dennis Drager as co-chairs.

“I was thrilled to hear the recent news about the United Way’s Annual Campaign reaching their goal of raising $780,000 to help support 27 local agencies and thirty-four programs in their quest to support Marshalltown area families and children,” Schutte said. “It has been an honor and pleasure to serve with Dennis Drager and work alongside our United Way staff, board and the annual drive chairs to accomplish this past year’s goal.”

Over a period of several months the duo oversaw a team of dozens of volunteers during the course of the campaign.

While the donation segment of the campaign have ended, Steveson said

United Way board members will be meeting with the 27 recipient organizations Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We will meet with the organizations and review their budgets again,” Steveson said. “Then the board will meet the following week and make allocations to each organization. We work aggressively to make sure each organization gets an allocation early in the calendar year.”

A number of board members met with recipient organizations during the campaign to get acquainted and understand each organization’s mission statement.

“We are extremely grateful for the community’s support and work of our volunteers,” she said.
