Another 339 Iowans were confirmed as infected with COVID-19 on Monday, and seven more Iowans died.

The seven-day average of daily new infections has dropped to 479, a decrease of 13 percent from two weeks ago, according to according to the New York Times COVID-19 tracker.

While the number of outbreaks in Iowa nursing homes remained at 21 on Tuesday, the same level as reported Monday, the number of infections in those facilities grew from 645 to 671.

Between Monday and Tuesday, four Iowa nursing home residents died of the virus caused by COVID-19, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. That brings Iowa’s total number of nursing home residents who have died from COVID-19 to 456.

The number of confirmed infections in Iowa nursing homes has risen 47 percent in the past week.

The number of Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19 continued to climb this week. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were 253 infected Iowans hospitalized, up from 241 on Monday. The number of infected Iowans admitted to a hospital during the previous 24 hours remained at 30, the same level reported on Monday.
