When lights went out on Main Street

T-R photo by Thomas Nelson Marshalltown Police and firefighters respond to a false fire call on West Main Street. The call is suspected to be caused by a brief power outage in the area.

A brief power outage impacted several Marshalltown Main Street businesses Thursday.

The outage happened around noon. It is suspected to be the reason for a false fire call at a Main Street business, according to the Marshalltown Fire Department.

“We have underground lines in that area,” said Mike Wagner, Alliant Energy senior communications partner. “We have 25 customers out in Marshalltown.”

The outage also caused KFJB to briefly go off the air.

Alliant Energy is still investigating to see what caused the outage.
