Once a winter storm emergency has been declared, an on-street parking ban will be put into effect on designed snow routes and all vehicles must be removed from the street at that time.

As we transition from fall to winter, the Marshalltown Police Department reminds residents of parking regulations during winter storms.

The city will typically declare a winter storm emergency if there is a forecast of two or more inches of snow. Once a winter storm emergency has been declared, an on-street parking ban will be put into effect on designed snow routes and all vehicles must be removed from the street at that time. The parking ban will be posted through our local media, the City of Marshalltown website and Facebook page.

Failure to remove a vehicle from the designated snow route may result in a $30 fine and subject the vehicle to tow, at the owner’s expense, resulting in increased cost. Maps of designated snow routes are available on the City of Marshalltown website, main page under the Community – Service for Residents tab at https://www.marshalltown-ia.gov/. Snow routes are also clearly marked by red and white street signs.

We strongly encourage residents to educate themselves prior to a snow event as the Marshall County Communications Center and the police department’s Operations Division are extremely busy during winter storms. The police department would like to ensure that our residents are aware of the rules regarding emergency snow operations in the event of a winter storm. Keeping our roads clear is a citywide partnership. When cars are off our streets, city plows are more effective and efficient in removing snow from the roadway. Making it safer for everyone.
