Rekindled flames by Albion

The Sunday night fires by Albion were old flames.

Marshall County Communications Commission Director Rhonda Braudis said the collection of three fires were rekindled from Wednesday, so there was not a big sense of urgency.

“Fires can smolder for days,” she said. “The elements have to be just right and it was warm yesterday.”

Braudis said fire departments from Albion, Clemons, Liscomb and Marshalltown were on scene for four hours just to make sure the flames did not get out of control.

The fires last week, which ate 600 acres of land, were deemed to be suspicious by authorities and witnesses, who said there was no natural reason for the fires to have started.
