Zamora’s Fresh Market to get fresh look

Zamora’s Fresh Market, 4 E. Main St. will get a new look this summer. The building will undergo a façade rehabilitation following damage from the 2018 tornado and 2020 derecho.

Work on the building will focus on the building’s main façade on Main Street. The brown façade covering on the storefront will be removed and replaced with a totally new glass storefront system and new doors.

“A highlight of my summer will be seeing the finished Zamora’s storefront,” Deb Millizer, Executive Director of the Marshalltown Central Business District, said. “From the very beginning of this project, the Zaragoza family has been a joy to work with. The remodeled storefront will be a nod to the historical architecture of this cornerstone building. This work signifies yet another significant step towards the recovery efforts of our historical downtown.”

Julie Winter, Planning Director at Region 6 Resource Partners, said the building is very prominent downtown at the corner of Main and Center streets.

The new storefront will open up the building at the street level and restore a more functional design for the building. Brick repointing, repairing and replacement will also take place above the storefront.

“We are excited about the new renovations, not only for our business, but for our downtown area as well,” said America Zaragoza, whose family owns Zamora’s Fresh Market. “We will be open during construction, and we welcome anyone wanting to come take a look at the work being done to stop by to support our local business.”

Work has begun and is expected to be completed this summer. The work is made possible thanks to a $75,000 Community Challenge Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, a façade grant from the City of Marshalltown and the support of a tornado relief grant from the Marshalltown Central Business District. Region 6 Resource Partners assisted in writing the Community Challenge grant.
