7 Marshall County organizations receive grants

The Community Foundation of Marshall County (CFMC) is pleased to announce they have awarded derecho recovery grants totaling $86,466 to seven Marshall County organizations.

Soon after the derecho the Marshall County Disaster Recovery Fund awarded relief grants that were used to meet individual essential needs. These grants were to the Salvation Army for food boxes, YSS of Marshall County for transitional living supplies and Mid Iowa Community Action for individual assistance.

The recovery grants are intended to support the long-term recovery efforts of organizations serving Marshall County.

Recovery grants were awarded to the following organizations:

• Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown – Tree removal costs

• Fisher Governor Foundation – Tree removal costs

• Goodwill of Marshalltown – Sign replacement

• Habitat for Humanity – Home roof replacement

• Jonathan’s House International – Thrift store rebuild

• Senior Citizens Center – New location leasehold improvements

• St. Francis School – Playground equipment replacement

CFMC Executive Director Julie Hitchins said, “These grant awards demonstrate the recovery phase of disaster recovery which is the rebuilding phase. I want to thank every donor to the fund and assure them their donation played a key role in derecho recovery in Marshall County.”

The fund now needs to be replenished for immediate relief grants following a disaster. Contributions to the Marshall County Disaster Recovery Fund can be made online at www.desmoinesfoundation.org/marshallcountydisasterfund or checks can be mailed to the Community Foundation of Marshall County, 11 N. First Ave., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.
