Harvest Market to return with fresh produce and art
Organizers are excited to bring back a favorite fall event to Marshalltown’s 13th Street District.
The Harvest Market will return Sept. 10. More than 25 vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handmade art and more. Plus, food trucks and a beer and wine tent will be present to quench thirsts and conquer appetites. Live performances from Bon Jecci and the Punching Pandas will fill the air with music. Children can enjoy a kids’ corner featuring a STEM learning activity.
“I’m really excited that we’re bringing back the event to 13th Street after taking 2020 off and to just having great community representation at the event,” 13th Street District board member Christine Isom said.
The upcoming Harvest Market will be the fifth rendition of the event. In 2019, the Harvest Market attracted an estimated 2,000 people, Isom said.
She said the 13th Street District board has worked to have a multifaceted event for all ages, offering attractions for adults and children.
“Originally we were looking for how we could encourage the community to visit the 13th Street District with all of the revitalization that’s taken place within the district over the last decade, having a cornerstone event down there that would help to draw the community for a really fun, family friendly, neighborhood oriented event ” Isom said. “The Harvest Market started off really small and humble and it’s continued to grow over the years and we’ve continued to add to the event and we’re excited that we continue to see that grow each year.”
She said the Harvest Market has mostly stuck to their roots this year in terms of the vendors from Marshalltown and surrounding areas. The Marshalltown Arts and Culture Alliance helped sponsor artists to come to the event, giving the market a balance of produce and art.
“It’s awesome to see the investment that’s gone back into 13th Street,” Isom said. “To be able to have events that can draw people in our community, young and old, out to be able to really enjoy those investments that are going into the community and highlight some of the different areas of town.”
