A major collision shut down traffic on 18th Ave. between Anson and Nevada Streets on Wednesday afternoon. The Marshalltown Police Department is advising others to avoid the area.
According to MPD Sgt. Andrew Cole, the driver of a Kia Sedona was heading northbound on 18th Ave. when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Wausau Supply semi-truck.
The driver of the Kia was transported to the local Unity Point hospital with unknown injuries, and the semi driver walked away from the accident unscathed.
The Sedona will be considered a total loss, and the semi and trailer are being towed off the scene as of Wednesday afternoon. Charges are pending, and the MPD has not publicly released the name of either driver.
Cole didn’t expect the road to reopen until about 4:30 on Wednesday as crews are still working to remove the semi, along with sand and fuel that spilled in the same area due to an unrelated incident. Agencies involved included the MPD, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Commercial Motor Vehicles, Marshalltown Public Works, Marshalltown Water Pollution, Unity Point ambulance, Dave’s Crane and Wrecker of Union, and Mustaine’s Towing of State Center.
