A longtime mainstay at the Marshalltown Mall is closing its doors permanently on Jan. 22 after almost 30 years at its current location.

Bath and Body Works, the retail chain specializing in soaps, lotions, fragrances and candles, first opened in Marshalltown in 1994, and next Saturday will be its final day in operation. A source told the Times-Republican the move was a “corporate decision” and a disappointment to the store’s employees but couldn’t provide any further details at the present time.

Bath and Body Works is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and operates over 1,900 locations worldwide. In an email response to a request for comment, a company spokesperson said they could confirm the Marshalltown location was closing but could not provide additional information.
