Albert

CEDAR RAPIDS — A federal jury on Wednesday convicted Stephen Albert, 50, of Tama, of one count of sexual abuse by threat and force and one count of sexual abuse of a minor.

Evidence provided at the three-day trial in Cedar Rapids revealed that Albert sexually abused a child at multiple residences and at his place of employment on the Meskwaki Settlement. The incidents occurred from the summer of 2012 through October 2016.

Albert faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, a $500,000 fine, and a lifetime of supervised release following any imprisonment.

A sentencing date has not been set, and Albert remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service while he awaits sentencing.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Lisa C. Williams and Emily K. Nydle and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Meskwaki Nation Police Department, the Tama City Police Department, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
