Toddler dies in rural Marshall County accident

BAXTER — A toddler has been pronounced dead after an accident in rural Marshall County near Baxter on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to 3367 Fairman Ave. outside of Baxter for a report of a two-year-old child who had been struck by a pickup backing out of a garage. When deputies arrived on scene, the unresponsive toddler was located near the vehicle, and first responders and deputies began to administer CPR.

The toddler, who has not yet been publicly identified, was later pronounced dead on the scene as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.

The Iowa State Patrol, UnityPoint Heath — Marshalltown Ambulance, Life Flight, the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Melbourne, Rhodes, Gilman, and Baxter Fire Departments and first responders all assisted the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
