Emerson Electric has been designated one of the best employers in Iowa in 2023 by Forbes.

“It is certainly an honor, but not a surprise, to me and the rest of our Marshalltown team that Emerson was named a Forbes best employer in Iowa,” said Kevin Meyer, president of Flow Controls for Emerson. “Marshalltown is one of Emerson’s oldest and largest locations as well as one of the company’s centers for innovation, which means our employees have many opportunities for growth and are instrumental in developing important, new technologies that make a difference in our world.”

For the last five years, Forbes has put together the “Best Employers by State” list. This year, the magazine worked with research firm Statista and surveyed 70,000 employees across the country. The people surveyed had to work for companies with more than 500 employees, and Emerson fit that requirement. The survey questions asked about feelings on product pride, equity, the work environment and advancement opportunities.

Meyer said the survey found Emerson employees feel like they belong and can contribute to the success of the company.

“They are encouraged and empowered to achieve their career goals here,” he said. “They feel respected and have confidence in the business leaders and their managers. Across Emerson, especially here in Marshalltown, we encourage our employees to work together, explore and experiment with new possibilities, and our new Employee Value Proposition – ‘Let’s Go’ – captures that sentiment and reflects that historic and ongoing commitment perfectly.”

This is not the first honor given to Emerson this year. Fortune Magazine designated Emerson as one of “America’s Most Innovative Companies,” which recognizes the company’s commitment to and passion for innovation.

Meyer said in Marshalltown, innovation history goes back to 1880 when William Fisher invented the Fisher Type 1 pump governor that was the precursor to the industry-leading control valves designed, engineered and manufactured today.

“Our people know they can have a tremendous impact working in Marshalltown,” he said. “They know this is a safe environment for taking risks, making recommendations and collaborating on some of the biggest projects at Emerson. They enjoy working with their colleagues and feel great support from their teams. Finally, our Midwest culture is a huge plus, where our people and their families can have fulfilling lives outside of work and do great things in the community.”

Meyer said the company is happy the 1,100 Marshalltown Emerson employees feel they are making a contribution, and that they are supported and respected. It is something he is confident the company will be able to maintain.

“We will continue to work hard to continue to have a workplace where our employees can thrive and grow,” Meyer said.
