Twentieth Century hears program on Bea Niblock Center’s offerings
Rachel Inks, program coordinator for English Learners and Migrant Program for the Marshalltown Community School District, spoke to the Twentieth Century Club at the March 25 meeting at the Bea Niblock MCSD Orpheum Welcome Center.
Inks and Chit Phuu, family liaison, shared the center’s role in registering new students, meeting with the families to explain educational opportunities and choices, monitoring the district’s ELL program and working with community agencies to help new families and students as they come to live and learn in our community.
Colton Hanke, MHS teacher, introduced three students from his class at the center who are are transforming print materials from Jean Seberg’s life and career into a digital format available on a video in the theater’s lobby. They talked about the skills they are learning and how this project which will feature other prominent Marshalltown residents, such as Joseph Kosinski, director of “Top Gun: Maverick,” in the future.
The center is a busy place helping new families adjust and succeed in the schools and community and providing more educational opportunities for students to expand and use learning and skills.
The social committee of Joy Bryant, Jade McCoy, Mary Jefferson and Marge Grimes served refreshments.
