IVH resident gets his high school diploma — again
John Hanna, a current Iowa Veterans Home resident, graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1963 and went off to serve his country shortly thereafter as the Vietnam War kicked into high gear. Somewhere along the way, he lost his diploma, but over 60 years later, he finally got a new one. With some help from IVH leadership and the administration at West High School, who traveled down from Waterloo, Hanna got a new diploma on Wednesday morning and gave a brief speech donning his cap and gown before a short reception with cake and punch. He even got the chance to toss his cap in the air, and it’s safe to say that at that moment, Hanna felt young again.
