MFD battles house fire at vacant property on North 11th Avenue
No injuries were reported after a house fire at a vacant property on North 11th Avenue on Wednesday morning.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 418 N. 11th Ave. for a structure fire. Upon arrival, a small single-story house was found on fire. Fire department personnel quickly extinguished the fire and found no victims in the structure.
The structure is vacant, but showed signs of inhabitance, according to a press release. There are no utilities serving the property. The property owners were located and confirmed the structure should be vacant.
Following extinguishment and investigation, Service Master by Rice of Marshalltown was contacted to secure all windows and doors to prevent further entrance to the structure.
No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident. Fire suppression crews were at the
scene for approximately 90 minutes.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Marshalltown Police Department assisted at the scene.
