Albion Rail-Trail Festival returns this weekend

T-R FILE PHOTO A scene from last year’s Albion Rail-Trail Festival. The annual event returns this weekend with a theme of “Sweet Adventures Await.”
“Sweet adventures await” at this year’s annual Albion Rail-Trail Festival, and the newly-branded “Fiesta Season” in Marshall, Tama and Grundy counties will officially kick into high gear.
The fun starts tonight at 5 p.m with the Show and Shine Car Show and the fundraiser meal in the city park followed by the crowning of Little Mr. and Miss Albion at 6:30 and a movie night featuring the coming of age classic “The Goonies” at 9:30 p.m.
The lion’s share of the events will be held on Saturday starting with the pancake breakfast on Saturday morning from 6 to 9 a.m., the fourth annual Rail-Trail Bicycle Ride beginning at the Trailhead at 9, and of course, the grand parade beginning at 10 a.m. For the rest of the day, patrons can enjoy the Iowa River’s Edge Market Craft and Vendor Show, a raffle drawing, games, spin art and pinatas, train rides and inflatables, balloons by Zounds, and a cornhole tournament beginning at 1 p.m. at Woody’s Tavern. Volleyball on Main will also start at 1 followed by Bingo in the Library from 2 to 4 p.m. and live music from Punching Pandas on Jefferson Street from 8 p.m. to midnight. The fireworks show will begin at dusk.
A full schedule of events was printed in yesterday’s T-R, and more information can be found at https://albionrailtrailfestival.org/ or on the Albion Rail-Trail Festival Facebook page.
