Jordan-Heintz launches mentoring group ‘The Write Club’
Times-Republican contributor, and former staff writer, Sara Jordan-Heintz, has launched a new group for Marshall County writers entitled The Write Club.
The endeavor is made possible through funds from the Artist Innovation Grant, awarded by the Arts + Culture Alliance.
“We are so proud to support projects like The Write Club through our first round of the Artist Innovation Grant,” said Amber Danielson, executive director of the Arts + Culture Alliance. “Sara’s vision creates a welcoming space for writers to connect, grow and thrive–aligning perfectly with our mission and the Arts & Culture Master Plan to cultivate creativity and foster an artistic community.”
The group will meet once a month on Saturdays at the Marshalltown Public Library, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The initial meeting will be on June 21. Future dates will be July 19, August 16, September 20, October 18 and November 22.
“Working as a writer is an often solitary endeavor, and can be highly competitive. I’m thrilled to take my years of experience writing books, news articles, features and short stories, plus my work as an editor, to mentor both aspiring and established writers,” Jordan-Heintz said. “My classes will touch on writing fundamentals (including writing prompts), tips for getting published (and paid for your work), explore styles and genres, plus serve as a hub of creativity for networking. It will be a safe place to share your work. If The Write Club is the right club for you, please consider joining us.”
The Write Club is free and open to the public, ages 18 and up. Writers of all backgrounds and skill sets are encouraged to attend. Registration for the first session is appreciated, but not required. Jordan-Heintz plans to hold a special mentoring class for youth ages 14-17 at a date and location to be determined.
