Residents displaced after MFD battles townhouse fire on South 5th Avenue

The Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) responded to a blaze at 2323 S. 5th Ave. on Tuesday evening that resulted in the displacement of the residents.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the MFD was dispatched for a smoke investigation, according to a press release. Upon arrival, crews observed moderate smoke coming from the main entrance and upper level of the townhouse unit. Crews made entry and quickly extinguished a small fire in the kitchen area.

Once the fire was extinguished, MFD personnel completed overhaul to check for extension and worked to vent several adjoining townhouse units. The residents of the unit involved were displaced.

Fire personnel remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half and were assisted by the Marshalltown Police Department, UnityPoint Ambulance, and Alliant Energy.
