Former MHS dean of students reaches plea deal
Terrones pleads guilty to assault, a simple misdemeanor
The retired former Marshalltown High School (MHS) dean of students who had most recently been serving as a substitute teacher and club administrator when he was accused of sexual exploitation by a school employee has reached a plea deal to plead guilty to the lesser charge of simple assault, according to court records.
The deal between Daniel Sebastian Terrones, 64, and the state includes a fine of $105, a requirement to pay court costs and attorney fees and a five-year no-contact order with the victim. A plea hearing is set for July 25 at noon in Marshall County District Court.
The original criminal complaint accused Terrones, who was employed by the Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) on a full-time basis for 25 years before retiring from his position as dean of students in 2023, of “knowingly engaging in a pattern or practice or scheme of conduct through excessive touching resulting in a kiss of a student he was in a position of authority above,” along with routinely contacting the victim via text messages and hugging her.
