Marshalltown man charged after multiple alleged threatening incidents

Perdue

A Marshalltown man was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with a series of alleged threatening incidents, including one that involved a loaded firearm.

According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD), officers responded to a report of harassment in the 800 Block of East Main Street on Sunday, but when they arrived, the suspect, eventually identified as 25-year-old Donavan Elvie Perdue, had already left the area.

“The suspect had been alarming residents in the area by making threatening gestures, trespassing, and damaging private property,” the release reads.

On Tuesday, MPD officers responded to a driver reporting a roadway dispute. The reporting party described another vehicle driving recklessly, and when the party stopped near the reckless driver, the driver of the other vehicle allegedly began threatening the reporting party.

Later that day, MPD officers responded to a dispute in the 800 block of East Main Street. When they arrived, one of the subjects involved was attempting to leave the scene. As officers worked to detain the subject who was actively resisting, they discovered a loaded handgun on his person, which was found to have been used to threaten individuals in the area.

“The defendant wanted onto the victim’s back porch and made threats of shooting them with a firearm. The defendant would have his right hand in his sweatshirt, pointing a firearm at them. The defendant left the scene, and Officers made contact with him, where he was arrested for interference. A firearm was found on the defendant’s person during the search incident to arrest,” the criminal complaint reads.

During their investigation, officers determined that Perdue was responsible for all three threatening incidents, and he was charged with first degree burglary (a Class B felony), going armed with intent and interference with official acts (both Class D felonies), three counts of first degree harassment, all aggravated misdemeanors, fifth degree criminal mischief and criminal trespass, both simple misdemeanors.

Perdue was taken to the Marshall County Jail and held on a $105,300 cash-only bond.

This incident remains under investigation, and a preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m. The suspect’s grandfather, 69-year-old Dewie Elvie Perdue, was arrested back in September after a dispute in the 800 block of East Main Street during which he allegedly shot two people and fled the scene. The elder Perdue was eventually located and taken into custody in Bondurant.
