New publisher is looking forward to building relationships in Marshalltown

Gibons

Grant Gibbons is the new publisher of The Times-Republican and the Tama-Grundy weekly publications. Gibbons had been the publisher of The Journal in New Ulm, Minn. and the Independent in Marshall, Minn. for the past three years. Gibbons had served as regional circulation director at The Messenger in Fort Dodge and was overseeing the circulation efforts at The Times-Republican as part of his regional circulation responsibilities before moving to Minnesota.

He started his new position Dec. 15, replacing Terry Christensen, who retired Nov. 21. Gibbons is excited about the challenge ahead.

“The Times-Republican is an award-winning newspaper that has a long history of producing a great local newspaper. The community and dedicated staff at the newspaper can take a lot of pride in that accomplishment. It’s not possible without the support of our readers and area businesses,” he said.

Gibbons has been active in the communities where he has lived and worked. He was a chamber of commerce ambassador in Marshall, Minn., school board member for 12 years at Southeast Webster-Grand including four years as president; and served as mayor of Harcourt for six years. He also was a former president of the Northern States Circulation Managers Association.

He is anxious to get better acquainted and involved with the Marshalltown community. “Marshalltown is a great city with a lot of interesting history. I have some familiarity with it from assisting with circulation efforts there for many years. I always found it to be a welcoming community with a lot of potential,” he said.

Gibbons is a native of Wisconsin but considers Iowa home now.

“I’ve moved a few times, and central Iowa is just special. I am glad to serve this area in a job that means a lot to me and is important in filling a community need. We have a good team at The Times-Republican that works hard to serve the residents and businesses in the greater Marshalltown area.”

Gibbons has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and has worked in the newspaper industry since 1988.

Starting at $4.38/week.
