MPD investigating shooting described as ‘targeted act of violence’

The Marshalltown Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of West State Street on Sunday evening around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.

According to a press release, officers arriving in the area quickly surrounded the location and thoroughly canvassed several neighborhoods, but the suspect had fled the area on foot.

The victim, a 28-year-old male, was taken to UnityPoint Hospital and later transported to a Des Moines medical center. He is being medically treated for his injuries in Des Moines.

“The Marshalltown Police believe this to be a targeted act of violence,” the release said. “Our agency is currently processing numerous items of evidence to help identify the circumstances surrounding this incident and the individuals involved. We do not believe there to be a public threat to the area. We have received information that the individuals involved may have associated with one another.”

The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the Marshall County

Sheriff’s Office, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, the Meskwaki Police Department, the Story County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Marshalltown Fire Department, Marshall County Communications, and UnityPoint Emergency Services.

According to Chief Chris Jones, the suspect has not yet been apprehended and remains at large, and the investigation remains active.
