MFD responds to apartment fire early Monday morning
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a commercial fire assignment at 1706 S. 7th Ave., Apartment 5 at 12:38 a.m. on Monday morning, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, fire department crews found a three-story apartment building with a working fire in Apartment 5, which is on the ground level facing the parking lot of the complex. As operations began, occupants of the building were evacuating with assistance from the fire department.
Fire crews immediately entered the first floor of the building, quickly making their way to the apartment and finding a fire in the kitchen of the unit. The fire was quickly brought under control with a single hose line, containing it to the apartment of origin.
The building was ventilated and occupants were able to re-occupy following the incident. The family of the apartment where the fire was extinguished has been displaced but is being supported and stabilized by the American Red Cross.
The fire’s area of origin was in the kitchen on the stove top, and the fire extended vertically into the ceiling of the apartment. Firefighters were at the scene of the incident for approximately two and a half hours. Two occupants of the building were evaluated by EMS, treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
“Thank you to all of our partners: Marshalltown Police, UPH Marshalltown EMS, American Red Cross and Marshall County 911 for their efforts in bringing this incident to a safe and successful conclusion,” the release concluded.
