Identity of man killed in Sunday morning shooting released

The Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have released the name of the man killed in a Sunday morning shooting on North 11th Avenue that also injured three other individuals.

The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Gage Duane Gersema of Mount Pleasant.

“As we continue to work to collect and analyze all evidence available surrounding this investigation, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the staff of the Marshalltown Police Department would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the gentleman who died during this incident,” the agencies wrote in a press release.

Gersema’s family has been notified, and no other victim information will be shared publicly.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and the MPD and DCI continue to ask individuals who may have information to come forward. Marshall County Crime Stoppers has agreed to provide a $1,000 reward for information leading to additional arrests related to this incident.

On Sunday, 29-year-old Allen James Hart, also of Mount Pleasant, was arrested and charged with three criminal offenses related to the shooting, which occurred at about 4:16 a.m. that morning: intimidation with a dangerous weapon with intent, a Class C felony, reckless use of a firearm resulting in injury, a Class D felony, and reckless use of a firearm resulting in damage to property, an aggravated misdemeanor. Hart is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is set for March 12 at 9:30 a.m.
