Dale C. Franksain, 89

Dale C. Franksain, 89, of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Dale will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Dale Franksain was born on October 6, 1929, in Marathon, Iowa, to Joseph and Maggie Cross Franksain. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1948. After high school in 1948, Dale enlisted in the United States Navy where he made a career out of it for 20 years and was honorably discharged in 1968. Dale was an E6-1st Class Boat mate. His extensive service to his country had him stationed in the Atlantic and Pacific, Long Beach, California, Battle Creek, Michigan, Japan, Guam and Vietnam. Dale was honored with numerous medals such as the China Service, Good Conduct, Korean Asia Occupation, Service, National Defense, Vietnam Service, Navy Occupation Service, Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service, Vietnam Campaign and Navy Occupation Service medals. On December 27, 1969, Dale was united in marriage to Diane (Parrish) Eurom in Denver, Colorado, where he helped raise her five children from a previous marriage; Craig, Rodney, Terry, Melissa “Lisa” and Justina “Tina.” They all made their home in Denver until 1974 and moved to State Center, Iowa and later to Marshalltown in 1980. When they moved back to Iowa, Dale worked at Fisher Controls from 1974 until his retirement in 1992. Dale was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., American Legion Post #0071 in Garwin, U.A.W. Local #893 in Marshalltown and First Baptist Church (now Journey Church) in Marshalltown.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane and children: Craig R. Eurom and Rodney G. Eurom. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and his brother Lloyd Franksain, of Mesa, Arizona.

Dale is preceded in death by his children: Terry Eurom, Justina “Tina” Franksain and Melissa “Lisa” VanDeWalle; parents, Joseph and Maggie and siblings: Clyde “Bud,” Richard, Donnie, Frank, Esther and Vera.
