Michael Eugene Mohon

Michael Eugene Mohon of Marshalltown, Iowa, entered the world on September 4th, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas and was the oldest son of Thomas and Doris Mohon. This child of God shared his gifts with his family and friends until he went home to be with the Lord on July 19th, 2019, at the age of 63 years at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. The family wishes to thank the staff at Taylor House for their excellent, loving and compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24th, at the Journey Church, 700 East Olive Street, in Marshalltown with Pastor Jacob Rahrig officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the services at the church. A memorial fund is being established. Mike graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1973 and attended the University of Northern Iowa where he earned a degree in business management. He was an All-State all-around gymnast in high school and helped lead the 1972 squad to a state runner-up finish. Mike was also a member of the UNI Panther Swim Team.

Michael was blessed with two special women in his life- Jennifer (Herbert) in 1979 and welcomed a daughter Michelle in 1981. In 1985, he married Tammy (Pennell) and they welcomed three children- Wayne, Megan, and Blake.

Mike followed proudly in the family business serving as Vice-President of Sunset Homes, working alongside his Dad and brothers, Jerry and Rich. He managed three manufactured housing communities, achieved numerous sales awards and served as President of the Iowa Manufactured Housing Association.

Mike was a member of the 1st Baptist Church (now Journey Church) in Marshalltown. He loved gardening, boating, camping, bowling, fishing, cooking, traveling, and time with his granddaughters and dog, Alex. In younger years, he enjoyed spending time with family at their lake house on Lake Ponderosa, and family trips to Okoboji.

Left to cherish his memory are his children- Michelle Keys of Polk City, Wayne Mohon of Des Moines, Megan Mohon of Ankeny and Blake Mohon of Marshalltown; granddaughters Addison and Lexie Keys of Polk City; brothers Jerry (Sharon) Mohon of Newton and Rich (Carrie) Mohon of Marshalltown,; father Tom (Lavada) Mohon of Porter, OK and mother Doris (David) Anderson of Newton as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents.
