Roger E. Awes, 83, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019, at St. Francis of Assisi – St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown, with Father Michael McAndrew officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service, Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Roger was born February 29, 1936, to George S. and Delia B. (Ellis) Awes in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School. Roger was united in marriage to Karol Barney on June 7, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed with Nash Finch Grocery Stores as a manager and was a supervisor at JBS for 20 years. Roger was a member of the Lion’s Club. He loved both the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones. Roger loved racing and assisted his nephew’s racing team.
Roger will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Karol; three daughters: Jody (Clive) West, of Maple Grove, MN, Tamara (Chris) Smith, of Marshalltown, Teresa (Tim) Ewalt, of Ankeny, IA; two sons: Michael Awes, of Le Grand, IA, Thomas (Laurie) Awes, of Shorewood, MN; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Haaland and Dr. Lorraine Willis.
