A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi-Saint Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 9:30 a.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed to an organization of choice that helps children in need. Joan McLaughlin was born on April 24, 1944, in Marshalltown to Robert and Marie Hensing McLaughlin. She graduated from St. Mary High School then went on to attend airline school. On June 10, 1965, Joan was united in marriage to Lester Sieck and they later divorced. On June 29, 1991, Joan married Clifford Shuler in Tama. Clifford passed away on June 7, 2009. Joan had worked for Continental Airlines and later for Lamson Brothers as a teletype operator. In her later years, she worked as a CNA at Bethesda Care Center but mostly she was a Mom and great follower of her God and blessed mother, Mary.

Joan is survived by her children: Tim (Kristi) Sieck, of Tama and Lindsay (Craig) Kajer, of Toledo. Grandchildren: Shelby, Ethan, Natasha (Wyatt) and Andrew and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Marie Ramsdell, of Toledo and nieces and nephews.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband Cliff; parents, Bob and Marie; grandparents and brother in law, Brian.
