Dorothy Hegdahl, 89

Beloved mother, Dorothy Hegdahl, 89, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 3rdat Grandview Heights.

A private family service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Redeemer Lutheran Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Dorothy Jean Hegdahl was born January 30, 1931, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Christian “Chris” and Gertrude (Adams) Fricke. She attended LaMoille high school and graduated in 1949.

Dorothy was united in marriage to William “Bill” Hegdahl in 1952 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. They raised two sons together. Dorothy worked in accounting as a bookkeeper her entire career as well as for the family business, Bill’s Wheel Alignment.

Dorothy’s sons said that she was always working, even in her free time. She was a hard-working, devoted wife and family-oriented woman and an excellent cook. Dorothy loved “making things pretty,” doing yardwork and tending to flower beds, especially at their cabin at Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, MN. She was very involved at her church, Our Redeemer Lutheran.

Left to remember and cherish her memory are her two children: Denny (Penny) Hegdahl and Doug Hegdahl, both of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Nathan (Hollie) Hegdahl, of La Porte City, and Ryan Hegdahl, of Manchester; great grandchildren: Henry and Haylee Hegdahl; brother Robert “Bob” (Char) Fricke, of Mesa, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Chris and Gertrude Fricke; her husband Bill Hegdahl, her sister Marlene Miller, her sister Marilee Richter and her brother William “Bill” Fricke.
