Philip David Huntley was born in Des Moines on July 8, 1960, the son of David and Gloria (Bowman) Huntley. He grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from the Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1978. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September, 1980, and faithfully served our country until his honorable discharge in March 1989. On December 31, 1982, he was united in marriage to Terri Large in Marshalltown. During his time in the Marines, Phil quickly earned the rank of artillery Staff Sergeant and became very successful in recruiting. Upon his return home, he attended and graduated from Marshalltown Community College and attained his lifelong goal of becoming a funeral director when he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. While he was attending Worsham during the heat wave, his dedicated service to the funeral profession earned him the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Outstanding Service Award. Upon his return to Marshalltown, he was employed at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home, now known as the Anderson Funeral Home. During this time, he received the Governor’s Life Saving Award with Valor after pulling a truck driver out of a rollover crash. Phil was a member of the Federal Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association and the United Methodist Church in Conrad. He worked with children who had a family member under the care of Iowa River Hospice to help them understand funeral homes, death and dying. Phil enjoyed mowing his yard and his John Deere mower. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Every summer with his brothers, he marched in the Drum and Bugle Corps.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly thirty-eight years, Terri; his son, Daniel (Chelsea) Huntley; his daughters: Drue Huntley and Stephanie (Cody) Donaldson; his grandchildren: Jaxon, Logen, McKinlee, Collyn and Deklyn Huntley, Madison Huntley and Brooklyn Heise and Oliver Donaldson; brothers: Marc “Skip” (Judy) Huntley, Randy (Sue) Huntley, David Huntley and Matt (Amy) Huntley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
