Funeral services for Marjorie will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour before at 9:30 a.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed to either the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown or to Redeemer LWML. Marjorie was born on April 10, 1919 to Marion George Hickman and Hazel Fern Mulnix Hickman on their farm in St. Anthony, Iowa. Marjorie Fern Hickman was baptized on April 1, 1928 in St. Anthony. Marjorie graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1936. She married Lamont Clarence Wengert at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 4, 1938 and to this union, three children were born; Gary Eugene, Dennis Anthony and Marcia Kay.

Marjorie and Lamont raised their family in St. Anthony where they were active in their community and the lives of their children. They later moved to Marshalltown in 1964. Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Marshall county. During their married life, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family; as well as dancing. Marjorie continued her love of travelLamont’s passing. Marjorie and Lamont owned and operated Wengert Trucking Company for a number of years, hauling corn, beans, and hogs for area farmers. She would frequently drive trucks when needed. Marjorie will long be known for her vigor for life and work. She was always busy and kept a very tidy household. She was the first to offer to help with clean up after a meal and didn’t like to be idle. Marjorie enjoyed reading and her “stories” and having coffee whenever possible with the many friends she made throughout her life.

Marjorie worked at SS Kresge Department Store for a few years and then she was employed by the Iowa State Liquor Store in Marshalltown. She retired from the Liquor Store in 1984 at 66 years of age, as the manager. She was a fair, organized and trustworthy leader. Marjorie was a devout Lutheran her entire life. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in State Center in the early years and at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown for the rest of her days. She participated in numerous ladies clubs and organizations. Marjorie enjoyed helping in the kitchen at the church whenever she was needed.

Marjorie will most be remembered for her kindness and acceptance of all people. She had a large extended family and she loved to spend time with family whenever possible. She loved to attend events of her “kids” and it was rare for her to miss a graduation, wedding or milestone event. She welcomed all into her heart. She will be greatly missed by all that knew. When asked how she wanted others to remember her, she saidÃ-“caring, loving and proud of my family; a caring friend, good listener and compassion for others. My Faith will carry me through; Christ is my Savior.”

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Marcia (Larry) Nuese of Marshalltown. Daughters in law: Mary (Gary) Wengert of Booneville and Linda (Dennis) Wengert Kollias of Cedar Rapids as well as many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Once you were in Marj’s family, you were always counted as family; regardless of life circumstances. She was a steadfast, safe haven for many over the years.

Preceding Marjorie in death is her husband Lamont (1984); parents; her son Dennis Wengert and grandson Pete whom were killed in a small plane crash in 1980 and son, Gary Wengert (2018). She is also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather Jill (1971) as well as many loved ones that have gone before her.
