Funeral services for Dick will take place on Friday, April 16 at 11:30 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Dick will be laid to rest following the service at Sheridan Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard Floyd Rhodes was born on July 20, 1941 at home in the Sheridan Township to parents Floyd and Freda (Bennett) Rhodes. After falling in love with Martha “Marty” Shepard, they were united in marriage on June 26, 1962 at the Le Grand Friends Church. Dick was a hard worker, having dedicated over 26 years to Gra-Iron Foundry, followed by Dawson Foundry and retiring from GNS Brakes. A lover of all things Western, he could often be found wearing a hat and boots and watching old Westerns. He had a passion for horses and especially enjoyed training them. He was also a black-powder and modern shooting enthusiast. Dick loved to go to auction and collected cast-iron antiques. Many memories were made in the tight quarters of their pickup and camper on cross-country trips to Arkansas and Kansas. Dick also loved boating and waterskiing. Despite his tough exterior, he had a soft spot for his grandchildren and was always willing to take in family that needed a place to live. Dick was also an avid storyteller and enjoyed playing cards.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Marty; his two sons: Mike (Sandy) Rhodes and Bruce Rhodes; grandchildren: Amanda, Jessica, Cody and Emmalynn Rhodes and Shane Holcombe and great-granddaughter, Riley Rhodes. He’s also survived by his siblings: Garnet Upah, Mary Hawes, Carol Koch, Ben (Connie) Rhodes and Jannae Lutter, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by three siblings: Ruth Rhodes, Sherry (Les) Flowers and Kay Rhodes.
