He was born November 13, 1947 to parents Joseph Jr. and Vera “June” (Van Law) Kadner in Marshalltown, Iowa. He attended school in Marshalltown.

In 1967, he was united in marriage to Debra Bittner in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they called Albion their home and began a family raising their sons Brian and Brad together. Rich worked for the railroad in a number of positions including conductor. Rich was active in coaching baseball teams for his sons in his younger years. He was proud of his work as a conductor and he worked through the change of company names from Chicago Northwestern to Union Pacific where he eventually retired after working for 34 years. Deb and Rich later separated but remained friends.

In his free time, Rich enjoyed playing fast pitch softball for over 30 years, going fishing, hunting trips and trips to the casino. He enjoyed muscle cars and working on them when he could in his younger days. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going golfing, and hanging out with his softball and railroad buddies.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Brian and Brad Kadner; his three grandchildren, Makayla, Brianna, and Payton; his siblings Larry (Betty) Kadner, Janet (Brent) de Silva, and Lester (Wendie) Kadner; his furry four-legged companions, Buddy and Oreo; his friend Deb Kadner; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Jr and June Kadner; his sister Cynthia; and his grandparents, Ludmilla and Joseph Sr. Kadner and Mildred and Wilbur Van Law.
