Dr. Phillip R. McFadden, 89

Dr. Philip R. McFadden, 89, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown, IA, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on October 26, 1933, to Walter P. McFadden and Lillian C. (Berning) McFadden. He was the oldest of ten children. He received his early education at a one room country school in rural Dubuque County and Loras Academy in Dubuque prior to receiving a B.S. degree from Loras College in 1955. On August 31, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Tegeler at St Philomena’s Church in Asbury, Iowa. In 1959, he graduated from The University of Iowa College of Medicine and then served in the United States Navy (LT/MC/USN) as a physician for 3 years. He was trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Iowa Hospitals from 1963 to 1967. Then he, Pat and their six children made their home in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he practiced medicine for nearly 30 years. He felt very blessed to have assisted at just over 3000 deliveries. His children will forever be grateful for him making the time to attend whatever musical, theatrical or athletic event they were involved in. He loved to take family vacations and “create memories” along the journey. Some of the activities he enjoyed were: photography, mowing, planting and weeding flower beds, golfing and fishing. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church in both Marshalltown and Oskaloosa and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He took pleasure in volunteering his time with numerous organizations.

He is survived by: Pat, the love of his life and wife for 65 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Father Troy Richmond officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior to service time at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, with Philip’s family there to greet relatives and guests. As was his wish, Philip’s body has been cremated and entombment will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa, at a later date. Memorials may be directed towards: St. Mary’s Church-Oskaloosa MHP Serenity House Loras College-designated for the Philip and Patricia McFadden Scholarship.
