Mary Helen Stover, 101, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at Independence House in Lincoln, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi – St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Born Mary Helen Kelly December 20, 1921, to Bernard and Mary (Laughlin) Kelly. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1939, and went on to Central Iowa Business College. On July 7, 1945, she married Leo Franklin. He later passed away in 1964. On November 8, 1980, she married Clifford Stover in Marshalltown, where they made their home. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, ACCW and the Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center. Helen was known as a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Her other loves included dancing and traveling. She was a lifelong resident of Marshalltown before moving to Lincoln, NE, where she lived for the past 8 years. She will be missed for her friendly smiles.
Helen is survived by four sons: John, Robert, Wayne and Ray (Deb) Franklin, two daughters; Janice (Dennis) Long and Donna (Tim) Ellis, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her fiance Elmo “Pete” Petermeier, husband, Clifford, and daughters-in-law, Jill Nash and Linda Franklin.
