She was the wife of Donald “Don” Hemphill; mother of sons Lawrence “Lance” (Amy) Hemphill; and Donald “Donnie” Hemphill. Her parents were Lawrence “Babe” Wagner and Pearl (Himes) Wagner, of Marshalltown.

Nancy graduated from Le Grand High School in 1962, and Upper Iowa University in 1966. She began a teaching career at Upper Iowa. After marriage, and raising two sons, she began substitute teaching in the Newton Community School District, and transitioned to teaching Talented and Gifted students. In retirement, she enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, cooking and traveling.

All services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Pence-Reece Funeral Home, 310 North 2nd Avenue East, Newton, Iowa, 50208. Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 am; funeral service from 11:30 am-12:00 pm, with a light lunch immediately following.

Burial will be at 1:30 pm, at Newton Union Cemetery, 1601 West 4th Street North, Newton, IA 50208.
