Services for Jean will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, beginning at 2:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one-hour prior to the services. Memorials in Jean’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Jean Marie Thorn was born June 14, 1936, to Clifford and Iola (Miller) Thorn in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the oldest of four with her twin sister Joan born second. Jean grew up in Marshalltown and later graduated from Marshalltown High School.

On January 14, 1956, Jean was united in marriage to Larry Weatherman. They together had moved to Beaman, Iowa, where they began a family of their own raising five children. Jean worked at Rubes Steakhouse for many years as a server alongside with her sister Joan. She had a long career working for Lennox Industries in Marshalltown, Iowa, working in their quality control department. She spent 20 years with the company and retired at the age of 60. She was able to spend many happy years in retirement along with Larry until his passing in 2018.

In her free time, Jean loved to go shopping, taking trips over to Meskwaki Bingo and Casino, enjoying a margarita, grilling, spending time in the outdoors where she tended to go on walks and planting plentiful flower beds each spring to spruce up the outside of her home. She was known to be a huge Iowa State Cyclone fan. She adored being a grandma and enjoyed getting to spend every moment that she could with them. Another soft spot she had in her heart was for her fur babies that she had over the yearsa

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children: Vicki (John) Weaver, of Green Valley, AZ, Randy Weatherman, of Marshalltown, IA, Lori Balvanz, of Marshalltown, IA, Dawn Anderson, of Marshalltown, IA, and Denise (John) Greenlee, of Palo, IA; her grandchildren: Jason (Heidi) Weaver, Stefanie (Brett) Perry, Dustin (Sarah) Weaver, Ben Weatherman, Cortney (Nick) Horbach, Alek Balvanz, Kallie (Ashlee) Balvanz, Brad Anderson, Chad (Renee) Greenlee and Brian (Leslie) Greenlee; her 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and her siblings, Robert (Judy) Thorn, of Marshalltown, IA and Beverly (Royce) Fink, of Okoboji, IA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Weatherman; her parents Clifford and Iola Thorn; her great-granddaughter Emma Rose Weaver; her twin sister, Joan George; and her brother-in-law William “Bill” George.
