Phil Stafford

Phillip Joseph Stafford, born on November 28, 1956, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025. In 1974, Phil graduated high school from North Park Collegiate in Brantford, Ontario. He later earned a Business Administration degree from Mohawk College in 1978 and ultimately earned his Certified Management Accountant designation in 1988.

Phil began his accounting career and eventually settled at Fisher Controls/Emerson Process Management in Woodstock, Ontario. His career took him and his family to England in 1989 and then to Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1991, where they have made their home.

Phil met his beloved wife, Cathy, in the fall of 1976, and they were married on October 20, 1979, in Brantford, Ontario. Together, they raised three children: Heather, Brad and Greg.

Phil was involved in his community, contributing to organizations such as the Marshalltown Youth Foundation, and most notably, the Marshalltown Area Soccer Club, where he served on the board and as a coach. Phil spent most weekends at hockey and soccer tournaments, coaching and supporting his children.

A talented drummer from a young age, Phil rekindled his passion for music later in life, assisting local bands as a fill-in drummer and collecting drum sets and cymbals. He enjoyed golfing with Cathy and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Phil is survived by his wife, Cathy Stafford; his children: Heather (Jeff) Myers, Brad (Meghan) Stafford and Greg (Krista) Stafford; grandchildren: Landon, Reagan and Ellis; and his beloved Boston Terrier, Baxter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Stafford; brothers: Bill and David; sister, Suzanne; in-laws, Elmer and Betty Rivett; and many four-legged friends.

Per Phil’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. There will be a private family celebration at a later time. Memorial donations in Phil’s name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown or the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown.
