Fostering community engagement at MCC

At Marshalltown Community College (MCC), we believe that education is more than just academics. We strive to create a vibrant and inclusive campus community where students can connect with their peers, explore their interests, and develop valuable life skills. From academic clubs and organizations to community engagement initiatives, MCC offers a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved and make a difference.

Every year, thousands of students –young and old — walk through our doors. By inviting the community to participate in events like the Pumpkin Jamboree, we not only create a more inclusive environment but also strengthen the relationship between the college and the surrounding area. Our students have the opportunity to give back to the community that welcomes them so warmly every fall. We appreciate this, and aim to foster a sense of trust and encourage community members to seek out educational opportunities and services at MCC.

Beyond the classroom, these activities offer students valuable experiences that encourage personal growth and development. They provide opportunities for students to interact with peers, faculty, and staff, while practicing positive communication, teamwork, and time management. These experiences also help shape the overall student experience and increase the likelihood of students returning to MCC and achieving their degrees.

In today’s digital age, it’s more important than ever for students to develop strong interpersonal skills. By participating in campus activities, students can practice face-to-face interaction and improve their engagement with others.

At MCC, we are committed to providing students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom. Our programs and services offer opportunities for students to explore their leadership potential, develop their own sense of identity, and create lasting partnerships and friendships.

Community engagement is a vital part of our mission at MCC. By encouraging students to get involved in campus clubs and organizations, residence halls, athletic teams, service learning, student leadership opportunities, work-study jobs, and classroom experiences, we are providing them with a variety of ways to contribute to their community and develop their skills.

Studies have shown that individuals who feel a sense of belonging are more likely to succeed in their academic endeavors. At MCC, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel valued and connected. By participating in campus activities and engaging with the community, students can build a strong foundation for their future success.

If you are a student or a parent of a student at MCC, we encourage you to get involved and participate in our upcoming events. College is a journey that extends beyond the classroom, and we believe that community engagement is a key component of a successful educational experience.
