New academic year brings growth and exciting changes to MCC
The start of a new academic year always brings renewed energy, and this fall is no exception at Marshalltown Community College. As students and faculty return to campus, MCC is celebrating enrollment growth, significant facility improvements, and a calendar of events designed to strengthen learning and community spirit.
Enrollment on the rise
After several years of national enrollment challenges in higher education, MCC is pleased to report steady growth in its fall student body. Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs continue to lead the way, aligning directly with Iowa’s workforce needs. In fact, nearly all healthcare and manufacturing programs are filled to 100% capacity this semester, highlighting both their popularity and their importance to the state’s economy.
Students pursuing healthcare careers at MCC are preparing for vital roles in nursing, medical assisting, and other allied health fields where workers are in high demand across Iowa. Meanwhile, full enrollment in advanced manufacturing reflects the region’s strong need for highly skilled technicians and specialists. By attracting and preparing students in these areas, MCC is ensuring local employers have a ready pipeline of trained professionals who can contribute immediately to the workforce.
Investing in campus improvements
MCC is also making major investments to enhance the student experience. Newly renovated science labs now feature state-of-the-art equipment, giving students access to applied, modern learning opportunities. General classrooms across campus have been upgraded as well, with improved instructional technology and connectivity to support innovative teaching methods and expanded use of digital resources.
Beyond academics, student life, and technical education are seeing new opportunities. A brand-new Esports lounge and competition space has opened, providing a home for MCC’s growing Esports program and creating a hub for student connection through competitive gaming. At the Grinnell campus, a new auto technology lab is now available, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and industry standard equipment to better prepare students for in-demand careers in automotive technology.
The college is also revitalizing outdoor spaces to encourage recreation and community engagement. The MCC pond and surrounding recreation area are being refreshed to create a welcoming environment for relaxation, outdoor learning, and student activities. Within this area lies our cross-country course, developed in a long standing collaboration with Marshalltown High School. Widely recognized as one of the premier cross-country courses in Iowa, the course’s rolling terrain, scenic views, and well-maintained trails make it a source of pride for both the college and the community.
Kicking off with community and
connection: An open invitation
For MCC, the start of the semester is about more than academics, it’s about fostering community, creating opportunities, and building a sense of belonging. With strong enrollment in high-demand fields, upgraded facilities, and a vibrant lineup of campus events, MCC begins the year with momentum and optimism, continuing its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education to the heart of Iowa. Marshalltown Community College welcomes community members to visit campus, explore our new facilities, and experience firsthand the energy of a new academic year. This fall offers several unique opportunities to connect, including a community fishing competition at the MCC pond on September 20 and the creation of a new campus mural throughout the month of September, a project that will showcase local artistry and student pride. Whether attending an event, walking the revitalized recreation areas, or touring our classrooms and labs, we invite you to see the exciting changes happening at MCC and to join us in celebrating the bright future ahead.
