Strengthening community through athletics

I am truly excited to be part of the continued growth of Marshalltown Community College and Iowa Valley. After completing my first season as Athletic Director this past fall, it is clear that we have tremendous opportunities ahead, supported by an engaged staff and a highly committed community. A key priority moving forward is continuing to build a strong sense of community on campus and fostering deeper connections between athletics, academics, and our broader MCC family. I am committed to creating opportunities for collaboration, engagement, and shared pride across all departments, ensuring that our athletic programs contribute to a vibrant campus culture. Strengthening our relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the Marshalltown community will not only enhance the student-athlete experience but also reinforce the collective spirit that makes Marshalltown Community College such a special place.

One of the many exciting things happening at MCC right now is the development of several promising facility improvements that will further strengthen our ability to welcome new students and elevate the overall campus experience. Some of the athletic upgrades include a new video board, scoreboard, and scorer’s table in the gym — generously donated by Jim Dworzak — as well as major renovations to our softball field, featuring padded dugouts, a new netted backstop, and a new padded outfield fence. Athletics is becoming a priority at MCC, and I am excited to be here through this period of growth for both the department and Iowa Valley.

Serving as the new Athletic Director has been an incredibly rewarding experience, thanks in large part to the exceptional support I’ve received from the MCC staff during my transition back to Iowa. Our athletic staff has been nothing short of outstanding. Their dedication, teamwork, and genuine passion for student success are evident in everything they do–from the countless hours spent mentoring student-athletes to the enthusiasm they bring to each practice, game, and campus initiative. Their willingness to collaborate, innovate, and go above and beyond has played a major role in the momentum our department is building. I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such talented and committed professionals, and I am confident that their leadership and energy will continue to elevate our programs as we grow.

As a Marshalltown native, this role holds deep personal significance. Returning home to contribute to the community that shaped me has truly been a rewarding experience.
